When one is engaged in open minded debate, one SHOULD be willing to depart from a set viewpoint when compelling arguments are presented.
Have you modified your views during this discussion?
To date, I have seen only two people who would vastly prefer non-violent settlement of problems and issues acknowledge that there are times when it simply won't work. All I have seen Oneputt state is that simple fact; sometimes non-violence won't work and society is required to use force. The point then is that we must accept responsibility for our place in that society. When you hold an extreme view and will not allow any departure under ANY circumstances, you could say there is a "desire to not engage in true discussion."

This is one of the longer threads we've had, and it is degenerating, so I'm going to lock it.
We are going to probably have difficulty anytime someone comes in and very aggressively attacks a key tenet of Quakerism. It's questionable whether that's appropriate in this forum. We can raise questions about things, but to so aggressively attack something so basic to the faith is not really the purpose of this Forum. _________________ Bill Samuel, Webservant, QuakerInfo.com |
