At the suggestion of a participant, I have established a new Forum, Introductions. This is a place just to share something about yourself to help us feel like more of a community, since most of us have never met each other in person. _________________ Bill Samuel, Webservant, QuakerInfo.com |

Thanks for accepting me onto the site. My main reason for joining is to help research the Quakers that settled in our locality around 1650. We also have street names locally such as Fell Street, Penn Street, etc.
I have no connection with Quakers apart from my Great, Great, Grandmother was a Quaker from North Wales I believe. My reasons for joining are to find out information on a Quaker settlement in Mid Glamorgan in South Wales.
The village that became their home was, and still is called 'Quakers' Yard', but there is little or no information to be found. I do know that Lydia Fell is burried in the Quakers Burial Ground there, but little else.
My reason for this research is that our Primary School has a website of it's own and they have a section on it called: Local History. The Deputy Head Teacher has asked for any information on the Quakers of Quakers Yard, so it can be put onto our school site for the children and adults also to learn about the Quakers. I thought I would do what I could to find out about them for the children who attend the school.
I feel it would be good for them to learn about the Quakers and especially because many of our little ones live in that particular village. I hope you don't mind me asking for your help in this matter, only I keep hitting a brick wall whilst researching the subject.
I'm not even sure I've posted this in the correct place, but any help would be wonderful. The burial ground was given to the Quakers by a lady called Mary Chapman, who owned the land called Pantannas Estate. She left it to them in her will in 1700.
Here's one of only 2 links I could find at least some info on:

Thank you all,

Hi all
I stumbled across the Religious Society of Friends on Belief net because I took a Quiz called Belief-o-matic. My results were 100 UU and 99 Liberal Quaker. I have been a member of Baha'i Faith for a decade. Before that I was raised Greek Orothodox which I don't practise. I have not attended Mass in 20 years and do not ever intend to again.
I have read 4 books on Quakerism. I find it similar to Baha'i Faith but much better and closer to my core beliefs. I have found with books written by the Society of Friends I have had trouble to put them down.
I investigated the Church of the Larger Fellowship which is an online group for UU. It was interesting and nice people but not for me.
I have done some soul searching since reading those books and realized that being a member of the Society of Friends is my spiritual home. I have made the decision to resigned from the Baha'i Faith.
I am happily married in Canada. I am a Tourism student. We have no Quaker meeting in my community; therefore, I am looking to meet others whom I can connect with on a spiritual level. My spouse does not share my interest in spirituality period.
I am looking forward to learning and sharing with others here. _________________ Sincerely, Dina |

Hello, Dina--I'm pleased to have you here.
What sorts of questions do you have about the Society of Friends? |
