| Has anyone tried the belief-o-matic quiz on beliefnet? I took it just for a laugh and it claims I am 100% Secular Humanist, 92% Unitarian Universalist, 79% Liberal Quaker and 71% non-theistic. Interesting I though. Not sure if it means anything. At least it didn't sya I was a satanist |

I took it twice and the first time I came out 92% Orthodox Quaker and the second time, 100% Orthodox Quaker. _________________ "Hurrah for Quakerism!" (Caroline Fox) |

| Hooray for Liberal Quakers and Secular Humanists; I always thought the link was there, which entitles me to proclaim that I am not the theological neanderthal I am often made out to be. |

That was interesting.
I came back 100% Liberal Quaker. Never scored 100% on anything before in my life. Wow. |

| I hope your score does not get you banned in some neighborhoods, or was the reason you may have had ancestors burned at the stake, placed in Lancaster Prison, exiled to America or shipped to penal colonies. Quaker Clearness Committiees beware; faith testing, like any other tests, creates by its inherent design standard deviations from the mean. The Inquisition utilized this fiat with great success. |

Well, I scored 100% Orthodox Quaker. Amazing how that quiz was able to "pigeon hole" a person.

| Your 100% score as a Orthodox Quaker easily qualifies you as a elder on a Clearness Committee for a Orthodox Quaker Meeting. Would you prefer the stake, or Lancaster ? Although we jest, it should be remembered that Fox's "Book of Martyrs" was a best seller in its day, and I believe one revised edition alone ran some 1800 pages in documenting religious persecution and intolerance since the Roman era. What a horror religious proof testing can be ! |

Friend Mac,
Is this a Quaker Book of Martyrs? If so, is it still in print or valued? |

Foxe's Book of Martyrs is about mostly Protestant martyrs killed by Catholics although the first few chapters deal with Early Church and pre-Reformation martyrs. _________________ "Hurrah for Quakerism!" (Caroline Fox) |

Thank you, I wondered if this was the case. |

| It was John Fox (e ) who wrote the Book of Martyr's, published by a Mr. Forbush, I believe. The online edition has Chapter XVIII dealing with the Quaker persecutions. I first encountered the book when I was very young, checked out by an uncle from a college library, and the descriptions of the tortures employed in dispatching those of oppossing religious traditions forever make a mark on me. It is a great book, but you may have to reserve it using the interlibrary loan system and pay for postage. I think the online version is a somewhat edited, and a shorter version. |

I found an unabridged paperback edition in a thrift store for 25 cents. The same store had an abridged edition as well, and I bought both of them. _________________ "Hurrah for Quakerism!" (Caroline Fox) |

Is that not to be confused with the Anabaptists’ “Martyrs’ Mirror” by whoever compiled it, apparently beloved by Amish, Mennonites and such? _________________ Bradley P.
