Hello everyone I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself and explain my intentions on this forum.
My name is Sio, I am a 26-year-old female from Glasgow, Scotland. I have read a lot about the Quaker faith and attended a few meetings with a nearby group. I've never felt anything but welcomed and positive by what I've seen and found out through research, but I still have a few hesitations about officially joining Quakerism. I am bisexual, and I am agnostic. I am wondering how these two aspects of me would be received.
So, I'm here mostly to learn what I can about different viewpoints, experiences, and generally decide if this is for me in the way it seems to be.

Hi Sio. Welcome aboard the forum.
Speaking from the UK I have met others in meetings with exactly the same combination as you. They were welcomed and a hugely valued part of the Quaker community. I personally know a Quaker who says he is also Buddhist and have others in my meeting that also attend Anglican church services as well. I think where I'm going is Quakers accept everyone and have individual beliefs. Generally many are Christian however there are huge numbers that aren't. In the meetings I have been to over 5 years I have never heard one reference to the Bible or Christianity during the meetings. Hope that helps.

I can say you would certainly be welcome and accepted at the Dallas Meetings, although it might be a bit far for you to travel! _________________ Robin Foster |

Hi, Sio. You will find all flavors of Quakers here in nearly any category you choose. We are a heterogeneous bunch.
The same is true of most Meetings. If you travel a bit further from Texas, I'm sure you will find a warm welcome in any Monthly Meeting in the Northwest USA. _________________ "There is a field out beyond right and wrong. I'll meet you there." --Jellaludin Rumi |

Thank you for the responses I'm pleased by the welcome. I've had a look around and it seems like a lot of intelligent, open-minded conversations are taking place, so I think I can learn a lot! |
