My name is Ann Kramer. I'm a freelance writer and am currently writing two books on conscientious objectors during World Wars One and Two. I would very much like to speak to people who either were conscientious objectors, or are related to people who were COs in either of the wars, and would be interested in sharing recollections with me that I can use in my book(s).
If anyone would like to contact me about this topic, I would very pleased to hear from them.
With many thanks,
Ann

There's lots of COs in my monthly meeting, Ann. We've had medics, smokejumpers, medical guinea pigs, and at least two people who spent time in American federal prisons.

Also lots of people who volunteered for alternative service, hospital, forestry, and farm work mostly.

Some members emigrated from the united states to other countries.

I may be hard to reach for a day or two, but these people are happy to discuss their pasts.

My dad was a orderly in a mental hospital -- he suffered normal abuse for being a CO as his alternative service assignment was stateside. A National guardsman came in dress uniform and played taps at the graveside... no flag... but a small recognition of service (which is a far cry from the attitude during Viet Nam). He contracted Hepatitis during that period -- I do not know if he was deliberately infected (some were) or if it was a worksite hazard.
