Hello all,
I'm glad to have found this forum. I've recently (in the last month) begun to attend Quaker Meeting for Worship in a town in Southern England, and found that I feel very much at home there.
Many years ago I was baptised and confirmed in the Church of England, but have been only a very occasional attender there over the years, as I never really felt that I belonged or fit in, and was uncomfortably aware of those areas where my beliefs did not match the established creeds.
There are many things that I find appealing about the Quakers. In particular the value put on silence, simplicity and listening; the emphasis on personal experience of the spiritual; the willingness to be open to insights from other religious traditions; the attitude of respect for all human beings; the approach to spiritual life as an active journey; the acceptance of divergent viewpoints and the lack of dogmatism but openness to enquiry and growth.
While I feel very much at home in the Meetings I have attended, I do not yet find it easy to discuss my personal beliefs and experiences (and usually flee at the arrival of the tea and coffee!) I hope that the greater privacy of a discussion list like this one may be a more comfortable place to explore things that I am not yet ready to discuss face to face.
Looking forward to joining in discussions here as far as I have time to.
Hermy (a name I've adopted here as an oblique reference to my interest in alchemical symbolism.) |

Welcome Hermy.
I encourage you to venture into sharing, as you get to know your local Friends better.
Don't take too much notice of my "Sig. file" - it's not personal to you. Many Friends in these forums do use real names, tough I think a minority. _________________ In Peace,

Thanks for the welcome Theo! I did not take your sig personally, although I must say I would not be here at all if not for the opportunity to be anonymous/pseudonymous.
I hope I will be able to find people I can talk with in my meeting, but am not ready to do that as yet.
While I appreciate the efforts that are being made to keep this forum secure from spammers etc, I do hope the option to join under a pseudonym remains open.

Welcome, Hermy. I hope you will find this group useful. I ama member of a Meeting in east London, myself.
I also find the Westminster Meeting good for weekday Meetings and all kinds of other seminars and events--ramblles each month, annual retreat, lunches and taslks. St.Martin's Lane, if you ever are over that way.
Also QuakerQuest , Monday nights at Friends House, Euston. 6.30 for 7 pm.
I too am interested in Alchemy; and also CG Jung; the I Ching etc.
My best wishes,
