| For me, One does not have to study too hard on this religion to see that its views are very far-fetched. This "religion" disturbs me, not only because of its outrageous view of Mary Magdalene as being a "female Christ", but also because it seems to take bits and pieces of each of the world religions. If someone were to ask my opinion of this "religion," I would tell them to beware and stay away. As Christians, we view that there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5), and that any other who brings another gospel is to be accursed (Galatians 1:8-9). I would be interested to know if any others feel the same. May the Lord Jesus Christ be with you always. |

See also the Wikipedia Essenes entry.
You will find points of commonality between almost any religious group and Quakers, and likewise of difference. This you will find of the Essenes.
There is no official Quaker view towards the Essenes, and I am not aware of any statements by any Quaker body regarding them. _________________ Bill Samuel, Silver Spring, MD, USA

sorry.
I should have said, What do you think about this religion?
I meant that, since this is a quaker board, I wanted to see what the majority thinks.
I just thought that many of the aspects of this religion were very interesting and do seem very good, however the main points and "creeds", I suppose, are very unbiblical, i.e.-4fold god, worship of other gods, etc.
Thanks for the input.

Dear rylan_losce,
Thank you for introducing your “Essenes.” I went to the website thinking that it was the Essenes whose scrolls were discovered in caves near the Dead Sea a few years back, but I found a totally new religion—to me. I checked back with your first posting on this page and found you had not really asked any question. Please pardon my asking this. Was your communication designed to lure Quakers to that website so that they can learn about the Essens with the hope of getting converts?

The 'original' Essenes played an important part in the early Christianity before Pauline Christianity got it's foothold and took over.
Also look at the Ebionites as they played also played an important role ......

I am not trying to convert anyone to Essene-ism. I just didn't know what you guys thought of the religion. |

Parts of it sound good. but I would strongly question most of it. Most of their quotes seem to come after the time they say paul corupted the church (since they added the year to their quotes)
I love meditation, and I think it has its place in Christian worship. That's one reason I am a Quaker, because we have encouraged this. As far as Essene teaching I don't see how it can be historically supported. like Christianity. |
