This is for new members, and existing members who might find it helpful.

Since the Forum, generally, is a place for 'round-table' discussions, if you feel you would like to have longer, one-to-one talks with a Friend about Quaker things, there is now an extra option. You can become a Pen-friend with one of the following members.

This option if mainly for people wanting the chance to discuss and 'compare notes' at length with some Friend from a particular region, or meeting, perhaps about ways of doing things there that are different from their own.

The way to ask if a member is still able to take on a Pen-friend, just send a message using the using "personal message" button under their name.

We hope this will be a means to bring light and a sense of world-wide connection between all friends and seekers

I am available to correspond. I came to Quakers some years ago, and entered membership after three years of attending.

Our meeting is in Australia, and is an unprogrammed (silent) meeting.

Until recently, our Advices and Queries was that of Britain's Yearly Meeting, but now there is also an Australian version, which many Friends here use.

I'm in. I am active in Northwest Yearly Meeting, an Evangelical Friends organization in the Oregon, Washington, Idaho area of the US. I do not hold formal membership and probably would not do so in any organization as I see no reason for it; my activity makes me a member or not. I do not agree with all the conclusions the general membership comes to from the statement of disciplines, as they tend to rely more heavily on literal interpretation of scripture while I belive that the Spirit is paramount. Evangelical Friends are almsst always programmed Meetings. I also occasionally visit an unprogrammed Meeting of a more liberal branch, somewhat further away from home.

I am interested as well.

Living rather isolated and simply, I have never attended a Quaker meeting, of any kind. Unless my daily journey within, with and through the source might be so described.

I do not fit well into groups, but don't shun them either. The individuals within groups are always interesting.

I feel a danger in groups. They tend to sway one toward a certain gate or travel along a certain path because they assume that majority rules. I just don't feel that's necessarily true in any arena, but certainly not for ones personal choices/freedoms.

Living; and discovering what this means is more a journey we each take with god. However each of us defines the divine/source.

Be well,
Charlie

I'd like to be in too, though unsure of the form , or quite how we / it would procede.

I am a fairly ordinary Friend in Britain and quite humansistic as well as informed by Buddhist mindfulness and the Tao and I Ching. I am not wild about definitions and certainly not self definitions.

Was a priest, now a therapist

maybe this is enough for now ....

Thanks you Diane and Friends

QuakerInfo.com occasionally gets email inquiries about getting into regular correspondence with someone, usually from areas where there are not organized Quaker meetings. In fact, we just today got such an inquiry. Would the proposal provide a way to refer such inquiries?

Does that mean the inquirer doesn't read the forum, and therefore can't pick one of the people who have presented themselves in this thread?

Unable to write the person of choice a personal message, and get their email address to correspond personally with them?

Or do they possibly ask who might be the most worthy to contact?

Yes, it probably means the person does not read the Forum. The norm for this kind of inquiry is that the person is reaching out to multiple groups seeking ongoing contact. Who knows how many. In this case, I received inquiries related to two different Web sites I maintain. The person did not specifically indicate interest in discussing Quakerism. Other than name, age and country, what he wrote was, "I really want some friends in Christ for some advice, prayer etc."

I would also be happy to correspond. I live in Serbia and I am an "international member" living in an area with no Meeting.

I would so much like to correspond either by e-mail or snail mail with someone to help me learn more about the Quakers.

I have said on another thread I was brought up in the Anglican church, became a Methodist but nothing has filled the something I feel missing.

From what I have read the Quakers reflect that which I feel and I thank god for bringing me to them.

I hope someone will feel compelled to contact me.

Yours in blessings

Coral

We seem to have so many diverse beliefs and contentions. There are evangelical, liberal and atheist members. Is there not a concern that, for someone new to Quakerism, linking in with one particular person may give rather a limited, and not necessary accurate view of Quakerism? How can this possibility be avoided?

A good start but I'm not sure it addresses my point. Shay, it was only a consideration Smile Perhaps I misunderstood. Confused
