Recently, a post of mine was deleted, and I'm fine with that, it is after all your forum and you run it on your own. However, another offensive post has been left up.

Could you either lock the thread and leave all the posts as they stand, or delete all the offensive posts but leave the thread open? If threads are locked as they are, posters will have a chance to see what is considered bad posting. If offensive posts are deleted but the thread left open, a conversation can continue.

Like I said, I certainly don't mind a post being deleted or a thread locked by the person in charge of the board, but it seems odd to me that both would be done at once.

These are difficult decisions, but is what seemed best to me. I am reluctant to delete posts that are surrounded by undeleted posts unless there are no references back and forth because it destroys the continuity. Before a thread goes really bad, there are usually some posts at least close to the line. I've been known in the past to delete an entire thread when it had a number of questionable posts in it, but I would like to save that course for really extreme situations.

My judgment on these matters will generally differ from that of some other participants, but I think that is unavoidable.

It seems that if a message contains a word of Welsh it is now deleted.

No, I am not deleting anything because it has Welsh in it.
